"As there seemed so little left of interest in Managua, and even less to paint, the next morning I took a local bus back along the main road about 40 miles to Granada. This city, that had once been the capital, had a number of fine buildings which I had noted with interest as we passed through on route the previous afternoon, and I felt had to be worth a better look. Granada well lived up to expectations, and though it was not a place where I felt I could relax, due to the general poverty and air of neglect, I was able to have a fairly active day walking round sketching and painting the picture above. The city was founded by the Spanish in 1524 and developed rapidly as an important trading centre." - MH
