"I sketched a group of what I assumed at the time were convicts working to restore the palace, but I was later to learn that they had in fact been forced labourers. Although I had heard this sort of thing went on in Burma, I had not expected to see it.
I had intended seeing what remained of the palace itself, but having walked half way round the complex to visit the temples and painted two pictures it was nearly dark." - MH
