"Though I had been most impressed by Jibla, when I saw the old city of Sanaa that next afternoon the experience of that previous day soon seemed insignificant. Sanaa has to be one of the least spoilt cities in the world. It is no wonder that Unesco considers the area within its old walls such a unique part of our human heritage it is campaigning to safeguard the entire area.
First thing to catch my eye was the architecture. The richly ornamented buildings, many of which towered to over 8 floors, looked amazing. Exploring the maze of narrow alleys running between these buildings turned out to be quite an experience.
Sanaa is reputed to be one of the worlds oldest citys, claiming to have been founded by the sun of Noah, of Noah's Ark fame. The Great Mosque and was built in 630AD while the prophet Mohammed was still alive. It now has a population of 500,000 and is growing fast." - MH
