"Cholula, once one of the largest of the Mayan centres with over 400 temples, had been almost flattened by the Spanish conquestodors, who then set out to replace the temples they had destroyed by building churches on their ruins. Now, many of these picturesque little churches that they built, sadly stand neglected and almost abandoned out in the fields, their charm enhanced by the backdrop of the large snow-capped volcanoes that surround the area. With so many attractive views just waiting to be painted, this area was, to an artist like myself, a pure delight and at first I found it difficult to decide where to start. I felt I was really in my element here." - MH
