"I have heard it said that you should never go back to a place that you have fond memories of, and certainly I found much of that advice was to be born out here. I first visited Kathmandu in 1968 while on an overland trip to Australia. On that occasion I spent 3 weeks in the Kathmandu area, and had thought that experiencing its mediaeval way of life to be the ultimate travel experience. At that time there were no western hotels or restaurants, few cars, and apart from the hippies, few westerners. To walk anywhere away from the main street was like being back in the middle ages". - MH
